Wednesday, September 16, 2009 from 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM (PT)
Let's break bread for Breakthrough! Our sixth annual event will feature a keynote address by Dr. Robert M. Franklin, President of Morehouse College in Atlanta.
Dr. Franklin is well respected by many. Marian Wright Edelman (2006 Event Speaker), President of the Children’s Defense Fund, declares that his latest book, Crisis in the Village, “should be required reading for everyone concerned about the future of Black children, the Black community and America.” Cornel West declares Dr. Franklin to be “one of the most prophetic leaders and visionary thinkers of his generation.” A scholar-preacher, insightful educator, and frequent commentator on NPR’s “All Things Considered,” Franklin is lauded as a dynamic orator.
Be inspired -- join us for an enjoyable and thought-provoking evening. Additional speakers include Breakthrough students and teachers who will share their experiences.
Honorary chairs are civic and business leaders Laura & John Fisher, Leigh & Bill Matthes, and Scott Pearson.
Funds raised will support Breakthrough’s mission to increase educational opportunity for high-potential, low-income middle school students and to inspire a diverse group of college and high school students to pursue careers in education.
